Q: Are clients able to utilize the outside amenities within Futures?
A: Absolutely! All our clients can have access to amenities like tennis, volleyball, the pool and more, immediately following detox. Check out the full list of amenities at the facility.
Q: How often do you take clients to recovery meetings?
A: We provide opportunities for our clients to attend recovery meetings daily.
Q: Do clients have to go to recovery meetings?
A: No, although many of our clients choose to go. Meetings can be a source of support, comfort and often help that lead to lasting recovery. Learn about attending your first meeting.
Q: Do you treat pain issues along with addiction?
A: Yes. Many people find that after detox they are dealing with acute or chronic pain. Once detox is complete, it is important to assess sensations in the body with a renewed sense of perspective so that any underlying pain issues that may be at the core of the addiction can be tended to and to encourage a greater sense of wellness overall.
Q: Do you accommodate religious and/or spiritual obligations?
A: Yes. We offer on-site non-denominational support as well as outside services, depending on the client’s religious orientation.
Q: Are clients allowed to have visitors and/or go out on passes?
A: Yes, as long as requests are approved by the clinical team and will be beneficial for a person’s recovery. If you have a loved one at the facility and need to contact them, please call (561) 935-5795.
Q: How do clients purchase toiletries and other approved items?
A: For the convenience of our clients, we offer a bi-weekly delivery service that offers products at reasonable prices.
Q: How safe is this area?
A: Our treatment facility is constantly monitored by staff. The surrounding area/town is incredibly safe, and under the protection of the very vigilant and helpful Tequesta town authorities.
Q: Will I be able to use the phone?
A: Yes. On the 11th day of treatment, you may utilize your communication devices (at identified designated times). You may also make appropriate phone calls from our landline as long as they have been approved by the clinical team. Please see additional guidelines regarding phones and electronic devices under “Are there rules regarding the use of electronics/communications devices?”
Q: Can I send/receive mail?
A: Yes. You may send or receive mail anytime.
Q: What kind of access will I have to money?
A: Clients are allowed to have $200 maximum in cash as well as personal credit/debit cards and checks for toiletries and additional services (e.g. massage, acupuncture).These personal items are documented/recorded and kept by Futures’ management team, securely in a safe. We also have a safe available upon request, with provision of receipt. Futures is not responsible for clients’ cash.
Q: What items are clients allowed to bring from home?
A: Below is a list of items we allow you to bring in at the time of check-in. You can also download our helpful PDF Packing List that includes all item to bring and what not to bring:
- Mouthwash that does NOT contain alcohol
- Soap, shampoo, conditioner
- Feminine hygiene products, if needed
- Cologne, deodorant, perfume and hairspray (provided NO, or less than 5% alcohol is contained)
- Toothbrush and toothpaste
- Body lotion and sunscreen
- Non-Aerosol (pump) hairspray (must not contain alcohol)
- Disposable razors and electric shavers (sharing is not permitted)
- Curling and/or straightening irons and blow dryers
- Tobacco products (Residents may only smoke in designated areas. Smoking cessation counseling is available and strongly recommended)
- Watch and/or small clock
- Shoes, including tennis shoes, sandals and slippers – please note that walking barefoot or in socks in the hallways is NOT permitted.
- $200 Maximum in cash as well as personal credit/debit cards and checks for toiletries and additional services (e.g. massage, acupuncture). These personal items are documented/recorded and kept by Futures’ management team, securely in a safe.
- Photo Identification documents such as a driver’s license and/or passport,
- insurance card and prescription card
- Credit card for prescriptions, co-pays and/or incidentals
Q: Are there certain items that clients should NOT bring to treatment?
A: Yes. The following list of items is prohibited during treatment, comprised mostly of medication of ANY kind including over-the-counter medications:
- Milk of magnesia
- Nicotine Patches
- Supplemental vitamins / Multi-vitamins
- Sample Medications
- Herbal Products
- Nicotine patches/nicotine gum
- Weight/muscle supplements
- Drugs of any form and shape
The following items are considered contraband and will be disposed of upon Futures Policy:
- Benzodiazepines, opiates, muscle relaxants and other narcotic medications
- Alcohol of any kind
- Any outside food, beverages, spices, condiments and gum
- Open or loose tobacco products
- Condoms and/or lubrication
- Alcohol-flavored tobacco
The following items are considered contraband and will be stored in a locker until discharge upon Futures Policy:
- Pornography and/or sex devices/toys
- Hand sanitizers containing alcohol
- Weapons of any kind
- Extension cords and/or cables
- Video game consoles
- Weight scales
- Non-disposable razors
- Non-disposable E-cigarettes
- Vapes and vape liquid
- Glue of any kind
- Hair dyes/color of any kind
- Attire that depicts or refers to alcohol, drugs, sex, gangs, violence, gambling or any offensive racial slurs
- Inappropriate clothing such as miniskirts, cut-off shorts, midriff length tops, tube tops, provocative attire, sheer clothing, string bikinis or thongs, shorts with less than a 3-inch inseam
Q: Are there instances when items may be taken away?
A: Yes. When observed as threatening to the recovery process, staff may choose to confiscate certain items. Often, however, these items will be returned on the approval of our clinical team following completion of detox, including:
- Any products containing alcohol (cosmetics, mouthwash, etc.) – these may be allowed under supervision and in small quantities
- Items containing alcohol and/or glycol
- Products without labels
- All sharp objects (unless sharp objects have been restricted for safety purposes)
- Hair dryers, flat irons and/or curlers
These items can be used during your stay but must remain in, or be returned to locker
- All products in aerosol cans (may not be removed from locker)
- Hair clippers and/or beard trimmer
- Nail polish and/or nail polish remover
- Baby powder (may not be removed from locker)
Q: Are there rules regarding the use of electronics/communication devices?
A: Yes. During the first 10 days of treatment, if a client does not have internet capabilities, he/she may keep:
- Regular and/or Bluetooth speakers
- MP3 players without internet access
- iPod shuffle
Starting the 11th day, from 6 pm to 7 pm, clients may utilize:
- Cellphone (Only 1 phone in the locker at a time)
- iPad and/or tablet
- Anything that utilizes internet access
- Newer iPods
- Some Kindles
Q: Does Futures have a safe, if so, what can clients store in it?
A: We do have a safe for monetary-related items and valuables to ensure their safety, including:
- Debit cards
- Credit cards
- Gift cards
- Identification documents
- Driver’s license
- Insurance cards
- Birth certificate
- Car keys
Q: Are there items that Futures supplies at the treatment center?
A: For the convenience and comfort of our clients, we provide:
- 1 Hygiene kit, which includes: 1 small bottle of shampoo, 1 small bottle of conditioner, 1 bar of soap and 1 small lotion
- Laundry detergent
- Toilet paper
- Blow dryers, upon request (limited supply)
- Iron, upon request (limited supply)
- WIFI (limited availability)
- Facility telephones (available according to level of treatment)
- Pillows, blankets and sheets
Q: How often do you take clients to the beach?
A: Once a weekend our clients can relax by the ocean. We also provide a structured paddle boarding activity once a month that our clients thoroughly enjoy.
Q: What’s the staff-to-patient ratio?
A: Each client has both a case manager (with whom they meet once a week) and a therapist (with whom they meet twice a week). Each therapist has a caseload consisting of approximately 7-8 clients. We have found that this ratio allows our staff members to meet the needs of the clients and ensures that our clients receive the personalized care that they need.
Q: Are the counselors certified chemical dependency counselors?
A: Yes. Our counselors are certified chemical dependency counselors. We make sure that our counselors have more than the necessary professional training and certification to adequately address the psychological needs of individuals who struggle with chemical dependency.
Q: Does the facility have a medical director on staff certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine?
A: Yes.Our medical director, Dr. Gloria Dunkin, is certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine and has more than 15 years of experience in the field of addiction recovery. In addition to being certified by the American Society of Addiction Medicine, Dr. Dunkin is also in good standing with Florida Psychiatric Society, the American Medical Association and the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry.
Q: Can the treatment center handle other medical needs, like mental health issues or diseases like hepatitis C?
A: Yes. We understand that addiction cannot be treated in isolation from mental health issues or serious diseases. As a result, we offer professionally administered dual diagnosis treatment to address mental health issues and have medical professionals on staff with the experience, training and certification required to administer medication and address other issues involved in handling serious diseases and medical needs.
Q: Are licensed staffers available 24 hours a day?
A: Yes. Addiction recovery is a 24-hour affair, so we always have licensed staff available 24 hours a day. Clients at Futures can rest assured that a professional will always be available to help them, no matter the time or day.
Q: What kinds of support are offered after treatment?
A: We believe that it’s absolutely essential to provide continuing support long after treatment. As a result, we provide quality a robust alumni program as well as provide recommendations and guidance with respect to sober living and aftercare planning. Our case managers work with each client to create a full aftercare plan that is tailored to the individual. In addition, clients are welcomed into the Futures Alumni Program, which offers frequent meetings, sober activities, and volunteer opportunities for our alumni locally in Florida and other cities around the country. A: Yes. We understand that each individual is unique, so we provide personalized care which meets the specific needs, experiences and identity of each individual.
Q: Is Futures of Palm Beach covered by insurance?
A: We do accept most major insurance. Financial issues are of paramount importance, which is why we make sure that all of our prospective clients have the necessary tools and knowledge to make an informed and fiscally responsible decision regarding treatment.
