Clinical Care

The combined use of traditional psychotherapies, experiential therapies, and adventure therapies is what makes the Rise program unique, and uniquely effective for the patients it serves. Combining the insights and strategies learned through by individual and group psychotherapy, the visceral expressiveness of experiential therapy, and the physical and emotional immersion of adventure therapy, creates an exceptionally rounded and deeply engaging treatment experience.

Psychotherapy

Treating addiction and co-occurring mental health conditions including trauma, anxiety, depression, and mood disorders requires education and psychotherapy. People struggling with the disease of addiction and these mental health conditions must learn about these conditions in order to manage their ongoing care. Evidence-based psychotherapies help patients process traumatic experiences and learn techniques to effectively reduce and manage the symptoms of their conditions. As a part of the Futures Recovery Healthcare system, Rise patients receive comprehensive, personalized clinical psychotherapy from Futures’ experienced and licensed treatment professionals.

Patients receive at least two individual therapy session per week, and a tailored plan of evidence-based psychotherapies including:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
  • Motivational Interviewing
  • Experiential and Adventure Therapy

Experiential Therapy

Evidence-based experiential therapies, including psychodrama, art therapy, and music therapy, offer creative and interactive pathways to uncover personal insights and address issues. Experiential therapies are particularly useful in understanding and processing emotions and traumatic experiences. People who may have a difficult time becoming open about their experiences through individual therapy sessions can sometimes find experiential therapies more comfortable and productive. Incorporating experiential therapy into the Rise program gives patients more ways to learn about themselves, their relationships, and how to perceive and process their experiences. Taking part in experiential therapies also provides an interesting and enjoyable alternative to more traditional psychotherapeutic work.

Adventure Therapy

Adventure therapy is a central difference of the Rise program. For people who gravitate toward the thrill of new experiences, the exhilaration of excursion and exertion, and for those who have difficulty engaging in more traditional therapies, adventure therapy can be a powerful aid in achieving recovery. Rise patients who are stable and medically approved can take part in snorkeling, surfing, kayaking, ropes course, indoor skydiving, rock climbing, and more. These activities are about more than having fun. Adventure therapy uses these engaging activities to learn important lessons about our mental health and well-being, face fears, improve interpersonal communication skills, and find new ways to enjoy life free from substances.
